The island
Island Life is a private island of about 400 m2 located in the Noorderplas of the Vinkeveense Plassen. You reach the island by boat. Unique: the island is located at the head of a series of islands. From the island, you have a view of the lake for miles. Fantastic! The Vinkeveense Plassen is a nature and water sports area south of Amsterdam and north of Utrecht. It was created by the extraction of peat. The current elongated islands are so-called legakkers. In the past, they were used as drying fields for the peat that was still wet. After the peat had been dredged, peat pools were left behind, formed by the blowholes. 80% of the resulting legakkers and separate islands are owned by private individuals, who use the islands as a recreational destination. Island Life is one of the few separate islands in the area.
The Vinkeveense Plassen is a popular water sports area. Not surprising, because the location – in the middle of the Randstad, between Amsterdam and Utrecht – is very central. You can swim, sail, paddleboard, dive and relax. There are many restaurants and cafes along the lakes. A unique place that you definitely have to explore!
